Use of Nitrogen in Heat Treatment

Heat treatment facilities use nitrogen for three main purposes:
- 1) Nitrogen is being used to purge protective gases such as endogas. This way protects the parts from oxidation and other chemical reactions.
- 2) During the tempering process, nitrogen is used to clean residues and contaminants from the parts. This makes the surface cleaner and smoother.
- 3) Nitrogen is used to cool parts that have been heated in vacuum furnaces. This method enables rapid and even cooling, therefore reducing the risk of deformation and cracking.
